Even if the cord blood is needed there is no guarantee it can be used.  Less than 10% of cord blood can be used.  If the hospital doesn't handle it correctly it's no good.  If the lab doesn't preserve it correctly it's no good.  Even if all those that handle it did it correctly there's less than 10% chance your baby could use it.  Do a lot of research and decide if it's right for you.  Many companies use the time before birth to "scare" the parents into thinking it's like an insurance policy when it's just taking a chance.  Also, there are a lot of medical insurance policies that won't pay for the cells to be used because it's still considered very experimental.
Search the internet and find out all you can then decide if it's worth the money.

we paid the $1700 for it and felt it was worth the money. After the initial $1700 it's $100 a year to store it. I hope we never have to use it but if we do we at least gave our daughter a fighting chance.

because it is said to cure cancer for your baby and can save their life, very expensive though.
