My husband and I are absolutely planning on it. Why wouldn't you? Cord blood can treat and even cure horrible diseases like blood disorders, many types of cancer (like leukemia), juvenile diabetes, cerebral palsy, and brain injuries, to name a few. Not only can your child benefit from these cord blood stem cells--anyone in your family can benefit!

No, I wouldn't. I have better things to do with a few thousand dollars. Current research on cord blood future use tells me that it's a waste unless you have the money to blow. It will likely be most useful for an adult, but they will just toss the cord blood when you stop paying the annual storage fee, because chances are, your kid isn't going to pay it once s/he is an adult.

I didnt because I cant afford the cost of banking it. I looked into it and if I could have afforded it then I might have done it but I had to look at it this way.....I dont really have the money for it...the chances of us ever using it are slim and even if we do use it there is no guarantee its going to work. Like I said...if I could afford it then that would be different but it costs quite a bit and I felt being able to stay at home with my daughter and raise her was much more important then me having to go back to work at 6 weeks just so I can bank cord blood. My time with her was more important to me because God forbid something ever happen to her...that time is all I have.

I've heard that banking cord blood is most useful if you have another child with a condition (i.e. lukemia
)that could use it. If not, it's kind of a waste of money and you should donate the blood instead.
