What do I do while in court for a credit card debt?

0 votes
I will be going to court in a couple of days for a 5,000 credit card debt. I wanted to know what the best thing for me to do is. I want this to go away and want to settle for 2-3k at the most. What are things I should request if I want to settle? And what are things I should not agree to under any circumstances? I want to go to court prepared and not confused as to what I should be doing. Thanks for any help on the matter.

Your best settlement chances occur BEFORE going to court because you help the creditor avoid court costs.

get a lawyer - it will probably be worth it

Either way, bring your financial records and employment records. you need to show you can't pay to get help from the judge.

You should have tried to make that settlement when you first got the summons.  With court only a few days away, the creditor is gonna go for the whole amount.   Unless you have some kind of proof that you don't owe the whole amount, the creditor will win the full judgment plus court costs.

You might be able to convince the judge to set up a payment plan based on your budget, but even that isnt a sure thing.
