So i'm 36 weeks 4 days pregnant and when i give birth i'd like to donate my baby's cord blood.  I initially wanted to keep it and bank it in case my child were to ever get sick, but i cannot afford it, so i thought about donating it so it doesn't go to waste.  Are you allowed to even do this? If so has anyone else done this? And how do i go about doing this, just tell my doctor?

That movie made me cry. I watched my grandmother die like her. But, maybe your parents or someone could help you bank it. You really should keep it for your baby and not give it away. And im not sure if you can give it away. Wasnt the point of them having a donor baby so it was just like her sister.. Whats the chances of them finding a kid with the same genes and stuff as your baby? Hmm.. You should try and google it and talk to ur doctor about it if there is no possible way to save it!

You should ask your doctor and/or the hospital at which you plan to deliver if they participate in a cord blood bank.  If the hospital does not, you're probably out of luck at this point. We donated with my son (to Lifebank USA) but they no longer appear to have a public bank.  Anyway, you usually have to go through a screening process and it was recommended to start that no later than 34 weeks.  The hospital at which I'm supposed to deliver with my second participates in a cord blood consortium, and they offer it at the hospital when you check in to deliver.

The URL below provides information and a link to public banks and consortia.
