Can you still get LASIK after wearing contacts for years?

My contacts have high prescription. I've been told that contacts can damage the surface of the retina, therefore it's less safe to get LASIK. Is that true?

My mom recently went to a consultation for Lasik, and they told her that because she had been wearing contacts for many years, she was not a candidate for the procedure. The only way she could have possibly had it done was to go without wearing contacts for about 9 months, then she could be re-evaluated.  Good luck!

wearing contacts doesnt damage the retina it kinda restricts the top of the eye. Eye doctors say to not wear contacts for 6 months or so. that way your eye has time to return to its normal shape.

Never heard that.  I wore contacts for about 18 years before I had LASIK.  It's been 10 years since having LASIK and I still see 20/20
