I just bought a car and the next day the transmission goes bad can I use the lemon law on them?

I just bought a car from someone and it was perfectly fine until the next da while I was driving it an the transmission blew. Can I use the lemon law on the people I bought the car from?

The Lemon Law pertains to new vehicles that experience an unusually high amount of service and repair during their first months of ownership. Used vehicles are not covered by any such warranty system from the factory or dealer. You are unfortunately experiencing why you should always have vehicle thoroughly checked over by a qualified mechanic before committing to purchase. The only recourse you could possibly have is to take the vehicle to a mechanic and have them thoroughly inspect the transmission. If they find that the trans was altered or patched in such a way so that it would only last a very short period of time you may be able to sue the former owners for repairs. In some states it is against the law to knowingly sell a vehicle that has major mechanical problems without informing the potential buyer of the required repairs. It is a long shot, but may be worth the chance. Good luck.

Lemon laws typically apply ONLY to new vehicles, and never to a private-party sale. Sorry, you bought the car "as is". It was your car when the tranny went out, so now you get to pay to repair your car.
