My uncle wanted to correct his vision to correct his nearsightedness but he didn't qualify. What would disqualify someone with nearsightedness from getting lasik and I am not talking moneywise and he didn't have lazy eye? I want to know because I might get it later on?

Hi Morgan – At LASIK MD, we provide a thorough pre-operative assessment using advanced diagnostic technology to determine if someone is a good candidate. A person could be deemed a non-candidate following this exam for a variety of reasons, including prescription strength, corneal thickness or pupil size.

However, thanks to recent breakthroughs in laser technology and diagnostics, we now treat a wider range of patients with laser vision correction, including those with astigmatism and people with large prescriptions. In fact, 90% of all people between the ages of 18 and 65 who are either nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism – are excellent candidates for the procedure. The only way to know for sure if you are candidate is to undergo a comprehensive eye examination.

Hope that helps,

There are a few reasons some people can't have it, like low tear production , a cornea that is already too thin, as well as limitations on the powers that can be corrected
