Does New York have a Lemon law when buying a car?

My friend brought a car from a dealer in Brooklyn NY on a Saturday morning later that night the car started smoking and basically gave out. Come to find out The transmission is bad. On Monday morning she calls the dealership and they said there is nothing they can do.
Is there a Lemon law in NY and what can she do about the car?

Used Lemon Qualifications

I bought a lemon in Virginia once and prevailed on dealer to exchange w/o need for legal intervention

Said I would carry sign in front of dealership during evenings and weekends.  As I recall it croaked on highway on the way home pretty sure it was first day, no later than second.

BTW, the exchange was one of best cars I ever had and certainly best for mileage

If you're young, you need fearsome looking father or  sharp mechanic to shop with you, words to the wise.

Lemon law is a term applied to a type of statute that is concerned with new cars.  You probably want to know if the law requires an implied warranty for used cars.  There is no such law.  No law prohibits you from buying a junker if you wish, without paying for a warranty.  Fraud is a different subject.
