Is anyone out there saving the cord blood?
0
votes
Ok so i really want to save the cord blood of my baby boy. The only thing is that it is way out of my budget for this time in my life. I feel really guilty that i may not be able to do this for my son. Has anyone ever had to use this for the child and did it help?

I can not afford it so I am not going to have the cord blood saved. I really wish it was more affordable because I know I would choose this in a heartbeat for my child I really would. I feel sometimes like a terrible mom because I can not afford it but its a choice I had to make. I dont understand why insurance companies do not cover the cost? Maybe because enough of us dont complain or suggest it!

My husband and I were going to do this, and we talked about it with our obgyn, and she informed us that sometimes they can not get enough blood out of the placenta/cord, due to the fact that they do not know how much time they have before it detaches. So there's no guarantee that they would be able to get enough in case you needed it anyway! I still think it is a great program, but we too just didn't have the financial padding to cover the initial cost, as well as the yearly cost to this. If your baby does indeed ever need something like this, I believe there may be a bank of some sort that has it, although it will not be an exact match.
