Will people on Soc Sec Disability receive the tax credit checks even though they don't file taxes?

Typically, those receiving Social Security Disability are not required to file yearly Federal Income Taxes as they receive an anual amount which falls below the amount required to file taxes. I read where the "economic stimulus" plan was ammended to include those who receive Social Security, but, it did not mention the population which I am asking about.

From the accounts I have read, even though you don't file taxes, in order to get the rebate check you do have to file a 2007 income tax form with the IRS.

The rules on the rebate are still being developed, so are still pretty fuzzy. But from what I can make out from reading the bill itself and other published reports, it looks like receiving ss disability would qualify you for a $300 rebate, $600 on a joint return. It looks like you'll have to file a tax return to be eligible, even if you aren't required to file by tax law. Don't pay someone to do it - find a VITA or TCE site near you and they'll do it at no charge - see

for info.

The plan would give tax rebates of up to $1,200 for households, with $300 more for each child. The full rebates would be sent to individuals with incomes under $75,000 and to families with incomes under $150,000, including seniors and disabled veterans. The rebate would be phased out for those earning more.
...Seeing as they're giving money to seniors who may not pay taxes but get income from social security I don't see why those on social security disability payments won't get more free money from the government. I'm thinking that you'll just have to wait and see if a check shows up or not the same way the rest of us will.

To the best of my understanding from the media , it sounds as though a person on Disability should receive the Tax Credit check. Guess a lot of questions are yet to be resolved in this matter. Only time will tell.
