Do I qualify for the first time home buyers tax credit?

0 votes
I am married.  The last home that I owned I purchased alone, but I did put my wife's name on the deed.  She was not used to purchase to home in any way.  We sold that home about 4 months ago. We would like to purchase another.  She has not owned a home in the last 4 years.  Could she technically qualify for the credit because she has not purchased a home?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Technically you do not qualify for the tax credit because you are married, regardless of the fact that your wife has not owned a home. The fact that you owned the home disqualifies you as a couple.

If you were purchasing a home together and were not married, however, she would still be able to claim the tax credit.

The only other way around the situation would have been if you had been out of your home for at least three years as opposed to 4 months. That length of time would have re-qualified you for the tax credit and you could have claimed it as a married couple.

No, you dot qualify for the $8000 credit.

She is disqualified because you do not qualify.

Nope.  Your previous ownership disqualifies you both.

Both spouses must meet the test for the $8000 deal.
