Do I qualify for earned income tax credit?

0 votes
You cannot be a qualifying child in order to be eligible for the credit but I DO meet the criteria for a qualifying child (i am 20,full time student and live at home)...BUT my parents are both retired and do not have to file taxes so they wont be claiming me. So on the form can I anwser that i am NOT a qualifying child to my parents?

If you fit the requirements to be a qualifying dependent, you cannot claim your own exemption or EIC regardless if your parents don't file. Besides, even if you weren't, you'd have to be at least 25 yrs. old to claim EIC, if you don't have a dependent of your own.

It does not matter; you would not qualify anyway.  A person who is under 25 and does not have their own qualifying child does not qualify for the earned income tax credit.

NOPE
because they COULD claim you, because you are their qualifying child
and you have to be older than 25 without a dependent to get EIC, not much then

You very well might.  Go to the IRS web site here to see if you qualify for the EIC:
