What will happen if you get reported to the IRS for putting a made up social security number on a job application?

you should never put your soc. on a job application- if they call you in then give it to them.

Nothing will happen- you made a mistake things happen theyll understand

1) Why would you do something like that?  Trying to be funny, or don't like giving out your SSN, or didn't really want the job, or what?

2) Have you actually been reported to the IRS, or is this hypothetical?  If it's hypothetical, then you need to let your employer (potential or actual) know that your SSN is wrong and give them the correct one... and do it pronto, and cross your fingers and hope for the best.

If you've actually been reported... then you have a lot of explaining to do - the IRS gets a bit edgy when it comes to people using false SSNs. At the very least, if your made-up SSN is the same as someone else's real SSN, your income would be credited to the other person for Social Security purposes.  At the most, the IRS would be coming after you for tax fraud... and I don't think you want that to happen - they can audit your taxes for as many years back as they like.

I really hope this was a hypothetical question... and if you've been putting false SSNs on job applications... STOP.
