I am a 61 years old deaf and handciapped male and on disability. Do I have to file for income tax?

I did not before own anything but my 1997 van until my dad's death back on Sept. 7, 2006. He left his house for me. I want to know do I have to file for income tax since I am deaf and handicapped and on disability? I live in North Carolina.

If your assets and income are over a certain amount, yes.

If you have reportable income then yes you have to file. Being deaf, disabled, etc... has nothing to do with it. You may even have a refund coming.

Yes disability is still an income infact everyone I know that do file usually get refunds because of all the rest of the deductions they get to write off

Yep, you file. It does not mean you'll have to pay any taxes, but you better be safe and YAC than sorry.

If they don't want you to file in later years, they'll let you know.
