Why would the IRS reject your child tax credit if everything was filled out correctly?

When filing my mom's taxes we put down my step-sister who is 16 down for the child tax credit. Well I got an email back saying that they denied it saying that we had put down the wrong SSN wrong first and last names as well all for the dependent which was her. My step father, whom my mom is jointly filing with is the only one that can claim her legaly

did you do your taxes yourself or did you have someone else do them,, they should have helped you make sure all was correct when things were done..

since this teen is 16, who's taxes have they been on before.?  have they always been on yours?  the ssn has to match the first and last name that is why they are saying it was wrong..

you can do an emended tax form and put all the correct info on.  make sure you go to a tax person to do this..

If there is a typo in the SSN, the odds are the taxpayer who owns that number will NOT have the same last name.

Have step-dad or mom call the IRS, sit on hold for an hour, and it can be fixed over the phone.  The refund will take about 3 weeks more.
