Why does Samsung delay release dates so much?

After announcing the Samsung Galaxy Note in September, they've waited 2 whole months and yet there is still no official release date. Same with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. With all the hype after the announcement last week, there is still no official release date. In fact, it took them several days to even announce that Verizon was getting the phone first. Sure, there's bunch of rumors that it's coming in November but why not announce it if they already have an agreement with Verizon to sell their phone?

Meanwhile, Apple sets a time and date for their iPhone announcement and then subsequently has a pre-order and shipment date all set up. Guess what? They sold few million iPhone 4S units.

Isn't this the smartest and most profitable thing to do? Announce the product. Create a huge media frenzy and then set dates so that people mark that date on the calendar and forget everything else in their lives.... as in line-up at 4 AM in the morning to get the iPhone.

Won't this hurt the sales numbers for Samsung because of the 2 year contract binding a lot of customers?  Their practice of not releasing more information just seems illogical business practice.

Anyone know why they are like this? (because obviously companies like Apple and Motorola have no issues with releasing information promptly)
