will my mahogany hair dye come out?

well, i dyed my hair a while ago. when i dyed it, it was a mahogany brown shade. when it started to wash out, it faded to gingery-brown, and my sister is forever bugging me, calling me 'ginge' whenever i go past.
i wud really like 4 my normal shade before i go on holiday. i dyed it dark brown to cover up the ginger, but i can still see it >((   will this work d'you think?
